"Plants by their plastic character and their responsiveness to environmental conditions, can produce large phenotypic variations for a given genotype. Thus the detailed and in-depth characterization of the relationship between plant genotype and phenotype, as a result of genotype-environment interactions, often requires careful and controlled observation and phenotyping of large populations of plants. Therefore this requires phenotyping at multiple levels of investigation, including transcriptome, proteome, and metabolome studies, but also determination of cellular and tissue organization. This objective requires the implementation of platforms dedicated to plant multi-level phenotyping where the same plant individual can be described and characterized by several methods of parallel investigations."
